Commuters laud Akwa Ibom State Government for timely intervention on gully threat

Commuters plying the Calabar Itu Road have given kudos to the Akwa Ibom State Government for the timely intervention on the gully devastated section of the road at Ntak Inyang which they say saved lives and prevented accidents.

A cross section of road users who spoke to newsmen when the Akwa Ibom State Works Commissioner, Mr Ephraim Inyangeyen led a ye of Ministry officials to inspect the now reopened dual carriageway variously lauded Governor Udom Emmanuel for the quick response on the emergency gully encroachment which cut the road into two, leading to its urgent rehabilitation without waiting for the Federal Government.

It will be recalled that, the Akwa Ibom State government  on Monday, 28th October, 2019, ordered a shut down of the section of Calabar-Itu Highway at Ekim Junction leading to Ntak Inyang in Itu Local Government Area from traffic for remedial work to begin.

Commissioner Inyangeyen commended Niger pet Construction for working day and night to accomplish what he described as the highly professional job they did to restore the road on record time and thanked citizens and the road users for bearing with government all the inconveniences the had to endure due to  the closure.

A resident of the area who identified himself as Elder Jonah Akwaowo, said, the Udom Emmanuel administration by this feat has proven to be a very responsible government, arguing that, the comprehensive work done to stabilize the road is highly commendable.

Also speaking to reporters, a petty trader who sells meat at the abattoir said the closure of the road affected their business, but thanked the governor for the very determined effort to reverse the trend and restore normalcy to the area with the reconstruction of the road and reclamation of the area devastated by the gully.

The Works Commissioner has given assurance that, the road will stand the test of time given the quality of work done to permanently arrest the gully threat with world class drainage and water channelization system.

Earlier, the Works Commissioner inspected the ongoing Ikot Oku Ikono Fly Over project handled by Julius Berger and gave his nod to the pace and quality of work done.

He expressed confidence that the project will be delivered on schedule and reiterated the State Government's commitment to complete all ongoing projects.
