A'Ibom Female Youths Laud AKHA over Child Sexual Violence Care Bill

The President, Akwa Ibom State Female Youths, Ms. Esta Nta has poured encomium on the leadership and entire members of Seventh Assembly for envisioning and processing a Bill that shall foster medical respite for child victim of sexual violence in the State.


Ms. Nta gave the commendation earlier today while presenting a memorandum during the public hearing on a Bill for a law to provide for the compulsory medical treatment and care for child victim of sexual violence and other related matters organised by House joint Committees on Women Affairs, Cooperative and Health at the Assembly complex.


She specifically lauded the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, the lead sponsor and Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Felicia Bassey, co-sponsors and other members of the House for the general Acceptability the Bill has received so far by House.


In her, presentation, Ms. Nta stated that Ekiti State House of Assembly has recently passed similar law and with the Spate of child rape, molestation and defilement recorded in the State, it becomes pertinent for the House to pass such Bill, if the future of the upcoming leaders of the State must be safeguarded. 


She observed that the Bill when passed; "shall compel all hospitals in Akwa Ibom State both Public and Private to commence immediate treatment on the victim, as this will strengthen their efforts and expand their support to provide adequate and prompt treatment for any child who has been sexually assaulted to be attended to and swiftly take it to the notice of the police and a designated official of the ministry of women Affairs, ministry of health or ministry of Justice who will coordinate their findings.


"As the medical personnel also needs to send his/her report to these bodies within 24 hours".


Ms. Nta also reasoned that the Bill when passed shall give hospitals the legal protection they need for any victim/ victims who come to their facilities for treatment.


The President sincerely appreciated the Wife of the State Governor, Deaconess (Dr.) Martha Emmanuel for setting the pace for the fight against tape and other gender based violence in the State through her pet project, FEYREP. 


While calling on all hands to be on deck in kicking out sexual violence in the State for stable and healthy mental health for every Akwa Ibom child, she gave the assurance that the Bill when passed by the House, Akwa Ibom Female Youths shall partner with FEYREP and other relevant Organisations in creating awareness and educating the general public.
