The Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Akwa Ibom State celebrates with His Excellency, the Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel on the auspicious occasion of his Six (6) years in office.
We celebrate the fact that for 6 years under His Excellency’s visionary and credible leadership, we have succeeded in breaking new frontiers of development and making our State the new destination for economic development and investment globally.
Particularly, we celebrate His Excellency’s interest and support to the Traditional Institution and the Local Government System. The construction of a befitting, state-of-the-art State Council of Chief’s Secretariat/Chamber, with up-to-date facilities that meet International standard; the improved welfare package to our Royal Fathers; and the timely fill-in and release of paraphernalia of office to our Traditional Rulers; among others, are a few cases in point of His Excellency’s clear and demonstrated commitment to boosting the status of the Traditional Institution.
For the Local Government System, His Excellency has repositioned it, and turned the System into a model in the management of vibrant, well-developed and sustainable Communities. Significantly, His Excellency has made history by doing away with Transition or Caretaker Committees at the Local Government level. Owing to his avowed commitment to upholding democratic principles, we witnessed, for the first time, since the return of democracy in 1999, the transition of government from Elected Council Officials to another set of Elected Council Officials. A feat that seemed unachievable.
While celebrating our countless achievements under His Excellency’s 6 years of dynamic leadership, we pray that the remaining 2 years will usher in more templates for greater strides.
